Servings:

4 – ½ lb. burger patties

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs. Sawyer Creek Cattle grass-fed ground beef
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp ground black pepper
  • ½ tsp sea salt
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce (all-natural)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or coconut oil (for cooking)
  • 4 slices Wisconsin cheddar cheese
  • 4 slices smoked Gouda cheese
  • 4 slices Gruyère cheese
  • 4 whole grain or sprouted wheat burger buns
  • Fresh lettuce leaves
  • Sliced tomatoes
  • Sliced red onions
  • Pickles (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the beef patties: In a large bowl, gently combine the grass-fed ground beef with garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, black pepper, sea salt, and Worcestershire sauce. Avoid over-mixing to keep the meat tender.
  2. Form the patties: Divide the seasoned beef into four equal portions and shape into patties. Press a small dimple in the center of each to help them cook evenly.
  3. Cook the patties: Heat the olive or coconut oil in a cast-iron skillet or on a grill over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for 4-5 minutes per side or until they reach your desired doneness. During the last minute of cooking, add one slice each of cheddar, smoked Gouda, and Gruyère on top of each patty. Let the cheeses melt together into a delicious, gooey layer.
  4. Toast the buns: While the patties cook, lightly toast the burger buns on the skillet or grill until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes.
  5. Assemble the burgers: Place each cheesy patty on the bottom half of the toasted buns. Add fresh lettuce, tomato slices, red onions, and pickles if desired. Top with the other half of the bun.
  6. Serve and enjoy: These Wisconsin three-cheese burgers are best served hot, with a side of roasted vegetables or your favorite Wisconsin cheese curds!

Tips:

  1. For the ultimate burger experience, layer one slice of cheddar, one slice of smoked Gouda, and a bit of Gruyère on top of each patty during the last minute of cooking, allowing the flavors to meld perfectly. This trio makes for a hearty burger packed with flavor and wholesome ingredients! If you’re looking to cut down on calories, you can always reduce the amount of cheese or choose lighter toppings, but these cheeses are sure to create a mouthwatering burger experience.
  2. For extra flavor, try spreading a bit of raw honey mustard on the buns.
  3. For a different choice of sides, serve with sweet potato fries or a fresh salad for a balanced meal.
